Vanderbilt Commodores open 2016 preseason practice

The Vanderbilt Commodores opened 2016 preseason football practice on Thursday with a 75-minute workout at the multipurpose center.

Vanderbilt had been scheduled to practice at the John Rich Practice facility but inclement weather forced the session to be moved indoors.

The Commodores started with stretching and then worked with their position coaches.  Things progressed gradually from 1 on 1 drills to 7 on 7 and then 11 on 11 scrimmages.  The practice was wrapped up with more stretching and comments by head coach Derek Mason.

The Vandy players wore helmets, shorts and jerseys for their first practice.  It was not a full contact practice but "thud" contact was allowed.

Duece Wallace was sharp with several nice passes and a long run on a scramble.  He has good mobility and nice accuracy.

Zach Cunningham intercepted a Wade Freeback pass.  The Commodore defensive backs made several big plays to break up passes during the drills.
