Vanderbilt returns to the basketball court on Saturday night against the Mocs of Chattanooga after a 9 day break for exams. The Dores are coming off a pounding loss in Murfreesboro to the Blue Raiders 71-48. A break away from ball to focus on school work might be a good thing for this team. Vandy has had their struggles so far this year not only with teams who the Dores should beat but mainly with themselves. The team has yet really gel under the coaching of Drew but it's still early in the season with the opportunity to get better.

Defense and toughness have been two big issues for Vandy this year and tonight's matchup with Chattanooga should test those two areas. The Mocs are a veteran squad who has competed in postseason play. They have a good mix of guard play along with being stout inside. The efforts inside are led by preseason SoCon player of the year Justin Tuoyo. The senior big man is the Mocs second leading scorer, leading rebounder and top shot blocker. Vanderbilt F/C Luke Kornet will have his hands full tonight and the matchup between the two big men will be the area everyone focuses on throughout the game.

It will also be a battle for both teams in the backcourt. Vanderbilt leads the SEC in three point field-goal percentage and made threes a game (9.8). Chattanooga is a good on the ball defensive team with veteran guards who can lock you down and beat you off the dribble on offense. The Mocs will certainly test Vanderbilt's guards on defense. That has been a big area of concern for the Dores all season and it will be center highlighted in tonight's game. Vanderbilt guards Riley LaChance, Payton Willis and Matthew-Fisher Davis will need to do their thing on offense but more importantly, they will have to be great defenders tonight if the Dores want to pull out the victory. I believe tonight's game could be close. Vandy has had a nice break and Chattanooga comes into Nashville hungry for a win over a Southeastern Conference team.
