A long time target of the Commodores, 3-star defensive end Ryan Thaxton went public on Twitter tonight to announce his top four schools and Vanderbilt has become one of his finalists.
Thaxton gave his commitment early in the process to the Virginia Cavs but after a few months, the 6'5 lineman decided to re-open his recruitment and give a second look into other programs. Vanderbilt immediately became a school of interest for him and it helps that a relationship had already been built with the Commodores before his commitment to the ACC.
Vanderbilt targeted Thaxton early on because of his size and potential on the defensive line but also because of his strength inside the classroom. Thaxton is an excellent student that values education as well as athletics. He also fits the mold of lineman that the Commodores look for.
Thaxton has enough versatility and talents to play defensive end, tackle or even outside linebacker in the Commodores 3-4 defensive scheme. He is still coming into his own as a player so patience will be needed with Thaxton but the potential is there to become an impact player on the next level.
Right now, Thaxton has already taken an official visit to Rutgers and has two more visits scheduled with Tennessee (Jan 13th) and Ole Miss (Jan 27th) for the upcoming month. He has yet to set the date but as it stands right now, look for Thaxton to be on campus in Nashville, January 20th for his official visit with the Commodores.
Don't expect the 3-star defender to make a final commitment until after he has completed his official visits.
