Dores/Irish to clash on the gridiron in 2018

Vanderbilt and Notre Dame have linked up before on the football field and in 2018, they will do so again. The Commodores and the Irish will play against each other in South Bend on September 15th.

It was just announced over Twitter that the Commodores and the Irish will link up on the football field in the 2018 season that looks to be a one game affair that will take place on Notre Dame's campus.

Vanderbilt has yet to officially announce this game but according to officials at Notre Dame, the game is set and will take place next season in South Bend.

Both the Commodores and the Irish played a home and home series in the mid 90's where Notre Dame came away with wins in both games. Vanderbilt did come close when the storied Irish program returned to Nashville in 1996, where the Dores played strong but fell late, 14-7.

This game does fill an open spot on the Commodores 2018 football schedule. They wanted to fill that open spot with a Power Five program who fit what the Dores were looking for in a fellow academic football program. Notre Dame certainly fits the bill!

More info is sure to come as officials from Vanderbilt give further details on the upcoming matchup with the Irish.
