Vanderbilt senior earns three postseason honors from the SEC coaches

Vanderbilt senior center Luke Kornet is focused on the SEC Tournament, which begins on Thursday but today, the Commodores team leader received 1st Team All-SEC honors along with being named the top academic player in the conference. Today's honors are greatly deserved to one of the best big men to ever wear the Black and Gold colors.

The Southeastern Conference coaches released their postseason awards today and Vanderbilt senior center Luke Kornet is well represented.

Kornet has been named to the All-SEC 1st team after averaging 13.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg while playing an average of 31.0 minutes a game. He was also named to the SEC All-Defensive team as well. Kornet is considered one of the best defensive players in the conference and is one of the top shot blockers in the entire country.

His academic stature did not go unnoticed either. Kornet was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year today by the SEC coaches, after placing himself on the CoSida 2nd Team All-American Academic team late last week.

That is three big honors for the Commodores senior and every single one of the them is well deserved. Kornet could of easily been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year as well but that honor went to A&M freshman Robert Williams.

Kornet and his Vanderbilt team has been hot lately and now has placed themselves squarely into the NCAA Tournament picture. The Commodores begin SEC Tourney play on Thursday evening (6 pm Cent) against the Texas A&M Aggies.
