Kentucly O-lineman talks about his visit last weekend to Vanderbilt

St. Xavier (Ky) offensive lineman Wyatt Smock has quickly made a name for himself through the camp system through the year so far. He quickly onto the Dores radar and this past weekend he headed south to visit Vanderbilt. He talks inside about his trip to Nashville and the his good experience on campus and with the coaching staff.

Vanderbilt reached out and made it important to have St. Xavier (Ky) offensive lineman Wyatt Smock on campus last weekend for their Junior Day event. He is placed on the Commodores target board as a priority recruit and they treated him like one while his visit to Nashville.

"The reception I got from the staff when I arrived was overwhelming and it immediately made me feel like a wanted man," said Smock. "It was really an exciting feeling and set the tone for the rest of my visit."

Smock was brought in with several other recruits last weekend but the 6'4 290 pound interior lineman was considered a top priority while on campus.

He was able to spend quality alone time with Vanderbilt offensive line coach Cameron Norcross while also getting to see the campus and facilities. Smock admits to enjoying the scenery but what stood out the most was his conversation with Norcross and head coach Derek Mason.

"I liked the campus a lot. It's a very nice setting with more space than you think. The facilities were great too. The biggest impression I got though was my 45 minute talk with Coach Norcross and my brief conversation with Coach Mason. We talked about football, their style of play and they plays they run on offense. They told me how much they like my physicality, mental toughness and versatility. They feel I would fit in nicely with their offensive line group and become a great addition to the group. That conversation really told me a lot about their coaches and Vanderbilt," said Smock.

The 3-star lineman has seen an uptick with his recruitment over the past month. Besides holding an offer from Vanderbilt, Smock also has offers from the likes of Arkansas, Louisville and Purdue along with interest from several other Power Five conference schools.

After the visit to campus, Vanderbilt is viewed as a strong contender but don't look for Smock to make a decision anytime soon.
