Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish guard/forward Matt Ryan is in Nashville this weekend taking in the sights and sounds but also officially visiting the campus of Vanderbilt University.
Ryan is a former 4-star recruit coming out of Iona Prep in Cortlandt Manor, New York. The 6'7 combo forward choose the Irish out of high school over offers from the likes of Arizona St, Boston College, Creighton, Iowa St, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Providence, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and others.
His career at Notre Dame didn't go the way Ryan might have planned. Over a two year stay in South Bend, Ryan averaged 4.4 points per game and this past season as a sophomore, his scoring dipped to 3.6 per game after averaging 5.1 as a true freshman.
Ryan came to Notre Dame as a prolific shooter from deep and someone with the size and intelligence to score in other ways as well. He was lost in the shuffle at Notre Dame and at the end of the season, decided to transfer elsewhere.
Vanderbilt is the 1st school to bring Ryan in for an official visit. The Commodores are surely not the only school interested in the former 4-star prospect but they are the only program thus far to be attached to Ryan.
