Oscar A. Carlson (MI) athlete Jaylan Franklin quickly became a wanted man when the calendar year switched to 2017 and as we approach the summer season, the 3-star football recruit is ready to focus his attention on a final five.
Vanderbilt is among the final group along with the home state Spartans, the Chicago area Wildcats, the Badgers and the Panthers from the ACC.
Franklin quickly became a marked man by the Commodores coaching staff, immediately after evaluating his junior film. The 6'4 200 pound prospect plays tight end on offense and linebacker on defense. Vanderbilt see's Franklin as an outside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme but is not ruling out the possibility of being a tight end in Nashville.
Head coach Derek Mason and his Commodores hosted Franklin last month for one of their invite only Junior Day events. His time in Nashville was well spent as he was able to see the entire campus, speak with academic advisors, take in all the athletic facilities while spending quality time with Coach Mason and a few others members of the coaching staff.
Academics play a big role in the recruitment of Franklin, so along with his relationship with the Vanderbilt coaching staff and interest in their football program, the 3-star recruit is also quite interested in the Commodores for their prestige in the academic arena.
Vanderbilt feels pretty good about their chances with Franklin but they are receiving stiff competition from Michigan St, Northwestern, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin as well.
Look for Franklin to make his decision sometime this summer or right before the start of his senior season.
