Commodores set host 4-star Camron Johnson yet again

Brentwood Academy (TN) athlete Camron Johnson has been a marked man by the Commodores coaching staff for a while now and this weekend, the 4-star recruit will receive another up close and personal visit with Vanderbilt and head coach Derek Mason.

Many people don't consider Vanderbilt an actual player when it comes to the recruitment of Brentwood Academy (TN) athlete Camron Johnson but according the to the 4-star recruit, the Commodores are a major player and then some.

Vanderbilt is set to host the local stand out yet again for a visit as Johnson will be traveling up I-65 on Sunday to take in another visit with the Commodores.

"I'm actually headed up to Vanderbilt on Sunday and I'm looking forward spending time with the coaches and learning more about their program," said Johnson.

The Commodores have consistently chased Johnson since the moment an official offer was sent out. The Vanderbilt coaches immediately let it be known to Johnson that he is one their top targets and that message has stayed true since.

While Johnson holds offers from some of the best football programs in the country, he admits that he is very interested in Vanderbilt and they are a serious contender in his recruitment.

"I don't know why people think Vanderbilt isn't a school that I am interested because that's totally not true. I am actually very interested in Vanderbilt and I like everything they represent as a school and a football program. Their coaches are awesome too. I really appreciate the way they talk to me, make me feel important but also treat me like a human being while not trying to put any pressure on me. Coach Mason is doing a great job with that team and the way he treats his players is something I really like. There is just a lot to like about Vanderbilt and I can tell you, I will keep them at the top of my mind until it comes time for me to decide," he said.

The 4-star prospect will make several other visits this summer while planning a return visit back to Vanderbilt as well. Johnson still needs some time to look at several campuses, meet coaching staffs and visit with advisors before making a decision or even narrowing things down but he does claim a group of schools that are currently recruiting him the hardest.

"I don't have a top group right now but there are some schools that I am listening to and are coming at me harder than others. I'd say the schools recruiting me the hardest right now are Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Louisville and Georgia Tech. I'm also continuing to talk with Ohio. St and Alabama has really started talking to me a lot more lately. There are a few more schools that are on the radar but those would be the schools talking to me the most."

Johnson is taking his time with everything and has no timeline for when he will be ready to make his college commitment.

"No sir, I am completely open right now and nowhere close to deciding," he said. "I'm going to Vanderbilt this weekend and right now, that's the only thing I know and focused on. I have several more steps to take in my recruitment before I will be ready to decide."
