Vanderbilt fell behind to the more physical Nike team 6-2 in the first minutes of play. A 12-0 run sparked the Commodore offense as Vanderbilt scorched the nets in the first 13 minutes by shooting 57 percent from the field. For the half the 'Dores shot 52.9 percent on 18-of-34 shooting.
The play of the game came as Holwerda lobbed a pass over the Nike defense to Freije who slammed in the alley-oop to give the 'Dores a 43-15 lead.
Vanderbilt led at halftime 47-23. The 23 points scored by Nike was the lowest in a half during the exhibition season.
Russell Lakey was the bright spot for the Commodores. The senior guard grabbed four rebounds and dished six assists to go along with his 11 points.
The Commodores open the regular season at Belmont University Friday, Nov. 21. Game time at Belmont's new Curb Event Center is set for 7 pm CT.
