VandyNation.com recently interviewed Fred Weis, father of prospect Jared Weis.
Jared Weis is an outstanding defensive lineman/ linbacker prospect from Nolensville, Tenn. Jared is big, strong, motivated player who has good skills in the classroom as well.
Weis runs the 40 in 4.75 seconds, which is good time for a lineman. Jared attended the MTSU lineman's Camp where he was timed fastest in the lineman 20 yard sprint drills (2.6 seconds). Jared recently received speed coaching from John Davis, a speed coach with the Seattle Seahawks.
Weis has good strength. He benches 320 pounds and squats 450.
Jared attends Page High School where he is coached by Jackie Bennett. Page High School competes in the ultra tough TSSAA district 5-AAA. The Patriots had a fine 2000 season, finishing 9-2 and advancing to the state playoffs. Weis finished the season with an incredible 147 tackles, five sacks and three passes broken up.
Jared's most exciting play of the year was when, in the playoffs, he met head on with Jackson-Central's huge, star fullback and knocked him backwards for a loss. The rest of the night Jackson-Central used two players to block Weis.
Weis attended the Nike Camp at Purdue University over the spring. He was named to the "caught everyone's eye" list by Student Sports magazine which covered the camp.
Weis is an outstanding student with a high GPA an excellent ACT score. He plans to major in either engineering or pre med/vet in college. Currently Jared is being recruited by a host of institutions including Vanderbilt, Louisville, Alabama, MTSU, Iowa, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Harvard, Cornell and Dartmouth.
Vanderbilt is currently at the top of Jared's list. Jared parents are both graduates of Vanderbilt. Vandy defensive line coach Dennis Harrison is recruiting Weis primarily as a nose guard. The elder Weis states that Jared doesn't care where he plays, "He just loves to play."
