Strengths: A strong defensive line led by veteran DE Kindall Moorehead.  Excellent speed at wide receiver with Millons and Carter leading the way.  A favorable schedule that has the Tide playing 8 of 11 games in the state of Alabama.

Weaknesses: It's critical that the offensive line get some help quick. Two fine lineman return but there are few veterans. Alabama needs to decide on a QB.  Franchione is a demanding coach who won't just allow Zowe inherit the starting job.

Key Game: Sept 1, UCLA.  Alabama got off to a terrible start last season against the Bruin.  Another opening loss to the boys from the PAC-10 would spell sure disaster.

Coach Franchione says:

"We're young on the offensive line. We only return two guys that played a good bit last year. In a new system, the offensive line and quarterbacks have the highest learning curve. We need to get as far along as we can. We are also inexperienced in the secondary, but I felt pretty good about the way they played in spring practice. We have some guys back there who can make some plays."

Overall projection:

Coach Dennis Franchione is a winner and will get things going again for the Tide.  Franchione did a masterful job at TCU with minimal talent.   Barring any unforeseen injuries expect Alabama to win at least 8 to 10 games and finish in the top two of the SEC West. Top Stories
