Key Game: Florida State, Nov. 17.
Coach Spurrier says: "We don't have many backup players at a few positions. We have a redshirt freshman who was playing defense last year behind Mike Pearson. Hopefully you don't have too many injuries that will really hurt. Hopefully our quarterback position will get settled. I'd like for one player to really know what he's doing and be the leader."
Overall projection: The Gators are loaded again. They should be close to their 1996 form when they won the National Championship. Expect the Gator offense to average around 45 points a contest. The defense, led by DE Alex Brown, will be tough to score on. The Gators should win the SEC and contend for National Championship in 2001.
