Strengths: Quarterback

Weaknesses: Defensive line

Key Game: Sept 20, South Carolina.  Last year the Bulldawgs fell to USC 23-19 in Columbia, SC.

Coach Sherill says: "It all depends on how quickly these defensive linemen get ready. There's no question they can play. They're like (Willie) Blade, Dorsett and (Toby) Golliday when they came in a couple of years ago. We're much stronger at linebacker than we have been."

"Fifty-five percent of our football team is comprised of freshmen and sophomores. We have some quality players, and we have some depth. I wanted to play about nine of those freshmen we redshirted last year, but my coaches talked me out of it and I'm glad they did."

Overall projection: MSU took big losses on the defensive side of the house but expect defensive coordinator Joe Lee Dunn to have this defense better than the unit last season that gave up 28 points or more six times in 2000.  Look for the dawgs to win five or six games and finish in the middle of the SEC West.
