Strengths: Quarterback, defensive secondary.
Weaknesses: linebacker, kicking game.
Key Game: at Ole Miss, Sept 15th. A win over Ole Miss would put Vandy in a good position to achieve a winning season.
Coach Widenhofer says: "I had really missed coaching and working with the defense when I got the job as head coach, I felt I couldn't do it justice by doing all the other things I was doing. Now I'm in a position to get back involved in it, and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be working with the linebackers and secondary."
"I have better administrative help around me. I am more optimistic than ever before. I'm excited about our new chancellor, Gordon Gee. I think he wants to win, and he's going to raise the bar and help us get there. By no means will we change our academic standards or our admissions standards. We have to do a better job recruiting and finding those players. They're out there. This team has confidence and talent, and we just have to go out now and win close games."
Overall projection: Expect Vandy to win 4-6 games and finish 3rd or 4th in the SEC East. Vanderbilt has slowly stocked up on talent the past several years and is now in a position to threaten fellow SEC programs.
