NASHVILLE-- Top-seeeded Florida proved too much for second-seeded Vanderbilt in the finals of the Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The Lady Gators eased to a 4-0 victory over Coach Geoff MacDonald's team Sunday in the championship match at the Brownlee O. Currey Tennis Center.

The Commodores, ranked No. 3 in the nation in the ITA's most recent poll, will now wait to hear about NCAA Tournament seeding.

Florida took the crucial doubles point by winning on the second and third lines. On court three, UF's Boglarka Berecz and Nina Suvak defeated VU's Ashley Schellhas and Amanda Fish, 8-2. The Gators clinched the point at second doubles, where Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes edged Audra Falk and Annie Menees, 8-6. When the point was decided, play was halted on court one with the score tied 7-7.

In singles play, Florida built on their momentum by winning five first sets. Schellhas was the only Commodore to capture a first set, triumphing over Lindsay Dawaf, 7-5, at fifth singles. The Commodores battled, with Falk taking the second set against No. 1-ranked Alexis Gordon, 6-4.

The Gators notched their first singles point on court four, where Berecz defeated Fish, 6-4, 6-2. Florida took a 3-0 lead a few minutes later when Magley defeated Schmandt, 6-4, 6-2, at second singles. The match was decided at sixth singles, where the SEC Tournament MVP Julie Rotondi defeated VU's Menees, 6-2, 6-4.

When the remaining three matches were halted, courts one and five both were deadlocked in the third set, while court four was tied in the second set.

The Commodores (22-3) will not play again until the NCAA Tournament begins in mid-May.
