GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Florida's Justin Hoyman threw a complete game, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits to improve to 8-0, as the Gators defeat Vanderbilt 4-2 in McKethan Stadium Saturday before a crowd of 2,362.

Vanderbilt is now 27-12, 7-10 in the SEC, while Florida is 30-12, 10-7.

After four scoreless innings, Vanderbilt scored one in the fifth for a 1-0 lead. Antoan Richardson reached on a standup double down the right field line and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored when Ryan Klosterman grounded out to the shortstop.

Florida answered with three runs in their half of the inning. Leadoff man Jonathan Tucker reached base on an error and moved to second on Adam Davis' single up the middle. C.J. Smith drew a walk to load the bases. Ben Harrison hit a shot to right field scoring Tucker. Jeff Corsaletti reached on a fielder's choice scoring Davis and then Smith scored on an infield hit by Brian Leclerc.

VU's Jensen Lewis went five innings giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out one. He faced 25 batters and totaled 117 pitches.

"The first three innings were very tough," Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin said. "Although they didn't blow up, they took a toll on Jensen (Lewis) and it was probably a more difficult game than 4-2. It probably had a chance to be more than that. There were some great defensive plays made on our end and they made some great defensive plays too, but had we not made those plays the game might have extended itself a little bit more."

Florida added one more in the eighth when Justin Tordi scored on a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Tucker.

Stephen Shao led off the ninth inning with a ground rule double that rolled under the fence in center field. He moved to third on a ground out by Worth Scott and scored when pinch hitter Matt Zeller hit a grounder to the shortstop.

Hoyman pitched his third complete game of the season and numbered two walks with no strikeouts. He faced 37 batters and totaled 113 pitches.

Jeff Sues came in relief for the Commodores and went three innings giving up one run (earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out two.

Florida leads the series 2-0 with the final game scheduled Sunday at 1 pm ET.
