Atlanta Athlete Taking Over

Ramon McElrathbey will take over at quarterback for Mays next season. He has big goals, and he names some of his early college favorites.

Mays High School produced a handful of D1 prospects a year ago and junior Ramon McElrathbey figures to be the next in line for the Raiders in '05. Ramon will have some big shoes to fill as he changes positions to take over for Auburn signee Calvin Booker at quarterback. Who's made his early list of favorites?

"I don't have a top 5 yet. I like Vanderbilt, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, LSU, Georgia and Auburn," McElrathbey said.

What stands out about each of his favorites?

Vanderbilt: "I met the coaches up there and they were real nice. All the players said it's a good place to be."
Boise St: "I spoke to their recruiting coordinator and I liked him a lot."
GA Tech: "It's in my hometown, and it's a good place."
Oklahoma: "I'd like to play wide receiver for Oklahoma. I like their offense."
LSU: "I've gotten some letters from them, and they are the national champions."
Georgia: "My coach talked to them and they like me at free safety and wide receiver."
Auburn: "I met most of the players at A-Day and that was nice. Calvin (Booker) talks like it's the best place in the world."

What is Ramon looking for most in a school?

"Just overall interest in me. When I found out who wants me, I'll start narrowing it down and looking at education and location."

The Raiders standout has set some lofty expectations for himself next season.

"I'm going to take over our city. When you mention a player in Atlanta, my name is going to come up."

Ramon will be in attendance at TheInsiders/MSL Combine in Atlanta on May 1st, and he'll have his first chance to start getting his name out in front of Georgia's best. Top Stories
