Football: The players talk about facing Tennessee

Vanderbilt faces 7th-ranked Tennessee Saturday at 2:30 CST in Knoxville in a nationally televised game. Several of Vandy's players talked on the record about what this game means to them.

JUNIOR DL CHUCK LOSEY: I have complete confidence in our team that we can rebound. We've done it before. Nobody should count us out yet. When it's all said and done, before we come out of this season, something big is going to happen.

JUNIOR OL JIM MAY: We'll certainly give the effort. It's just in the hands of the good Lord what happens. We're just going to go out there with our guns loaded, and let the chips fall where they may. It's going to be a fight. If they think that we're not going to fight them, they're crazy. And if we think they're not going to fight us, we're crazy. It will be a hard-fought game, and the good Lord willing, we're going to hopefully come out on the positive side. We've been in close games all year, and we just haven't been able to close the door. Hopefully it will happen this weekend.

SENIOR LB NATE MORROW (on how Woody Widenhofer's resignation has affected the team): There's no doubt that Woody cares about us. He has a passion for his players. He's been criticized a lot this season, but there's no doubt he cares about us. He's tried hard not to make [his resignation] the focal point. He says he wants us to play for each other and to have pride in what we do. That's what we're going to try to do in these last two games.

SENIOR RB RODNEY WILLIAMS (asked if the team can rebound against Tennessee after a string of losses): I don't think it's a question of "Can we?" I think it's a question of, we're going to have to. Tennessee is ranked high, one of the top ten teams in the nation, and we know they've got a great team. But hey, we showed against Kentucky that we have a lot of offensive firepower ourselves. We didn't score as much as we wanted to because of a couple of turnovers. But I think we're going to be up to the challenge against UT. It's going to be very emotional. We have a lot of players from Tennessee, so they're going to be even more emotional for the game. Like I said, we're going into it full throttle, and I think we're just going to try to take out all our troubles against UT. Top Stories
