The winner of Sunday's SEC Tournament Championship game earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Tournament. But the Commodores have already made a more than convincing case, and most assuredly should receive in invite regardless of Saturday's and Sunday's outcome.
Tim Corbin's club earned a Friday bye with early-round wins over Georgia (6-0) Wednesday and Florida (3-0) Thursday. The back-to-back shutouts were the first in the SEC Tournament since 1995.
With one loss already in the double-elimination tournament, Florida (40-19) must defeat Vanderbilt twice Saturday to advance to Sunday's championship game. The Commodores enter Saturday on a seven-game winning streak.
"It's a great opportunity to play them as hard as you can," said Florida coach Pat McMahon Friday. "We have great respect for Vanderbilt. We'll play as hard as we can and see what happens."
In the opposite bracket, Arkansas defeated Tennessee 4-1 Friday to eliminate the Vols and advance to Saturday's round vs. South Carolina. South Carolina needs a single win to advance, but the Razorbacks must beat South Carolina twice to avoid elimination.
