Men's Hoops: Vanderbilt 69 UT-Chattanooga 57

The Vanderbilt Commodores got back on the winning track with a 69-57 win over UT-Chattanooga in the consolation game of the Hawaii Pacific University Thanksgiving Classic. Matt Freije and Brendan Plavich each led Vanderbilt with 19 points each to help improve Vandy's record to 3-2 on the season.

The Mocs never led Vanderbilt in the game but pulled to within two on several occasions.  The Commodores took an eight point lead into the locker room at the break, leading 32-24.

Vanderbilt shot well from three point land, hitting nine of 17 for the game.  Plavich was outstanding from beyond the arc hitting five of six. Freshman David Przybyszewski, who seemed to be almost automatic in previous games, had an off night hitting only one of four threes.

The Commodores, who only had limited use of point guard Russell Lakey in previous games, seemed more settled on offense with the sophomore in the game.  Lakey play 20 minutes and finished with four points and four assists on the night.

Other scorers for Vanderbilt included Chuck Moore with 10; David Przybyszewski 5; Sam Howard 5; Jason Holwerda 3; Scott Hundley and Brian Thornton each had 2.

Vanderbilt won the battle of the boards, 27-25 but again lost the turnover battle, 17-13.
