Decision forthcoming soon for SC O-lineman

Offensive line prospect Thomas Austin is close to making his college decision, and Vanderbilt is very much in the mix.

Camden (SC) OL Thomas Austin (6-4, 287, 5.2) has offers from Clemson (3-day camp), South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Army and Penn St. Clemson leads strongly over Vanderbilt, Auburn (1-day camp), South Carolina and Penn State. All have offered accept Auburn... and Tom has visited all of his faves.

"I like Clemson's small town atmosphere," says Austin. "I also like the job security of the coaches. At South Carolina, for example, I don't know how long the head coach with be there, and if he gets fired in two years, probably all the other coaches will go with him. Then there will be a whole new coaching staff.

"I like (Clemson) coach Brad Scott because he's very strict and precise in technique and he goes into a lot of detail. He also just signed a five year contract so I know he'll always be there.

"At Vanderbilt I know the coach has at least three more years, plus I like how they're rebuilding their football program. They also have a beautiful campus and I know I can get a great education there. They have a good name, so a diploma from there would mean a lot.

"I'm equally good at run and pass blocking. I've also had great coaches so I have a solid technique. I'm always trying to get stronger and faster and work on my quickness and agility."

Look for a decision within a day or two.
