SEC school tops Alabama DB's leaderboard
Joel Caldwell Profile
Hoover (Ala.) High School is loaded with talent. With two players committing to Division I-A schools already, Cory Reamer (Alabama) and Jahi Word-Daniels (Georgia Tech), another player is receiving a lot of interest.
Joel Caldwell is a 6'1" 175 lb. cornerback from Hoover. Caldwell has received one SEC offer. He is hoping for more as he enters his senior season.
"I have not received any other offers. Vanderbilt has been the only school to offer me so far," said Caldwell.
Caldwell took an unofficial visit to Alabama last weekend with teammate Cory Reamer. Reamer committed to Alabama on Thursday.
"Yeah, we went down to Alabama. It was really nice. The coaches were really nice. They showed us around campus. I was around Coach Ball, Coach Cheese (Harbison), and Coach Kines. We met all the coaches except for Coach Shula. They were all very nice, and they all seemed to know what they were talking about. You know they have come to win a National Championship," said Caldwell.
Caldwell knows what he likes about the Crimson Tide.
"I love the football tradition at Alabama and the legacy. They always expect to win and they work hard. I really like the coaching staff and the new facilities."
Though Alabama is high on Caldwell's list, another school sits at the top as his favorite.
"I would have to say Vanderbilt is my favorite, since they are the only school that has offered me. I am also considering Auburn, Army, Southern Miss, UAB, and NC State," said Caldwell.
Caldwell spoke with former teammates Curtis Dawson and John Parker Wilson, both '04 signees with the Crimson Tide.
"I talked to both of them when I went down on my visit with Cory (Reamer). They were talking to us about Alabama and how great it was to be there. They were very positive."
Caldwell is very happy for his current teammates .
" I think it was the best thing for Jahi (Word-Daniels) to commit to Georgia Tech. He has a lot of family that lives in Georgia and his brother attends Georgia Tech. I was happy for Cory (Reamer). I think it is very good he committed to Alabama," said Caldwell.
Hoover lost several big name players from last year's state championship team, but they expect to win again.
"We are planning on winning the state championship. We are going to have tough games every week, but we like to rise up to every challenge."
