Alabama DB Ready for a Commitment?

Joel Caldwell is a very talented defensive back for Hoover High School. Hoover is currently ranked as the fourth best high school team in the country. With two teammates already making commitments, Cory Reamer (Alabama) and Jahi Word-Daniels (Georgia Tech), Caldwell is on the verge of making his own.

This weekend Joel Caldwell made a trip to Nashville to attend the Vanderbilt-Mississippi State game.

"I went up to Vanderbilt for their game this weekend. It went really well. They won and the recruiting visit was terrific."

Caldwell came away very impressed with the Vanderbilt coaching staff.

"I was able to meet all of them. They were all very nice. They tell you how it is and they don't lie to you. They are very straight-forward. I also talked to my brother, Jason Caldwell. He plays wide receiver for Vanderbilt," said Caldwell.

The Vanderbilt campus also caught Caldwell's eye.

"It's a very nice campus. They have a great football program and nice facilities."

"I am really close to a decision after this visit. I will probably decide this week or sometime next week. It could be a couple of weeks, but I am really close," Caldwell added.

While Vanderbilt is high on Caldwell's list, another school has now entered as a strong contender.

"Vanderbilt is my favorite along with Southern Miss. Southern Miss recently offered me about three weeks ago. They have a good team and a great defense. I really like everything about their defense and I am looking forward to that. I also really like Coach Nix. He is a really nice guy. I am also considering UAB and Alabama," said Caldwell.

Several coaches are making their weekly calls to the Caldwell home.

"I receive calls from Coach Caldwell/Vanderbilt, Coach Harbison/Alabama, Coach Nix/Southern Miss, and Coach Sullivan/UAB. I have called Coach Nix, Coach Bryant/Vanderbilt, and Coach Ball/Alabama."

Hoover had a big win against Vestavia and is looking to have another big test on Friday night.

"The season is going really well. We had a very close game last week, but we came out on top (21-14). We play at Mountain Brook this week. I think we are ready for them. I have been having a good year. I have two interceptions and nineteen tackles," said Caldwell.
