The team scrimmaged against the "practice guys", the group of guys who regularly practice with the team. Joining the guys were Graduate Assistant Coach Hillary Hager and Director of Basketball Operations Kornell Battle.
Liz Sherwood hits the jumper just before the shotclock expires. Even though she won't be eligible to play this year after her recent transfer from UConn, the sophomore post got some time in the scrimmage and impressed the fans with her soft touch around the basket.
After the scrimmage, the players and coaches were available for interviews. Fox 17 sent out a TV crew to cover the event.
Upstairs in the Donor Room, the Commodore Crew hosted a potluck luncheon for the team, staff and fans. After lunch, Coach Balcomb talked to the fans.
Coach Balcomb the two newcomers to the team to the fans, then asked Liz and Katie to tell a little about themselves and gave the fans a chance to ask them questions.
Then the seniors, Ashley Earley and Abi Ramsey, talked to the fans and answered questions, including future plans (Ashley might be interested in becoming a lawyer one day) and hair color (Abi thinks she's going to stick with one this year, but didn't actually promise). After having watched the last two senior classes end their careers on buzzer-beaters, they're determined to end with a W.
Ashley's parents drove from Memphis to see the scrimmage . . .
. . . and Liz Sherwood's parents came from Colorado for a weekend visit.
Finally, there was a chance for a team photo before they left for post-practice treatments under the supervision of new trainer Michele Loftis. The extra faces in this photo belong to two of the "practice guys", the male players who practice with the team on a regular basis.
