Women's Tennis: Dores win at Georgia Tech, 6-1

The No. 4 Vanderbilt Commodores started their first road-trip of the 2002 season strong as they defeated No. 47 Georgia Tech 6-1 Friday in Atlanta.

The Commodores (6-0) took a early 1-0 lead as they took two of the three
doubles contests from the Yellow Jackets (0-1). The teams of Sarah Riske
(McMurray, Pa.) and Aleke Tsoubanos (Chesterfield, Mo.) at No. 1 and Jenny
Miller (Savannah, Ga.) and Kelly Schmandt (Santa Barbara, Calif.) at No. 3
earned the wins for Vanderbilt, keeping both teams undefeated this spring.

In singles play, Vanderbilt won five of the six contests to post the 6-1
win. Riske led the way with a straight set win over Jaime Wong at No. 1,
while Miller kept her singles' record perfect this season with a straight
set win at No. 2. Catherine Gunn recorded the only Georgia Tech victory of
the match with a three set win over Katie Blaszak. At No. 4, Kate Burson
(Washington, D.C.) rallied to win in three sets while Schmandt and Annie
Menees (St. Louis, Mo.) won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

The Commodores continue their road-trip on Sunday as they travel to
Tallahassee, Fla. to meet No. 34 Florida State.
