Baseball: Vanderbilt rallies past UT-Martin, 12-5

Through the first half of Wednesday's contest the Commodores seemed almost as frigid as the weather. But in the bottom of the sixth Vandy answered the Skyhawks with a five run blitz. The hits continued into the seventh inning, going uncontested for the rest of the game.

A sparse crowd braved the colder than expected conditions, but those who stuck the frigid temperatures out were treated with a classic Commodore comeback.

RHP senior Jeff Sues opened the game for the Commodores Wednesday afternoon.

The tension mounts in Hawkins Field as UTM loaded the bases in the top of the third inning.

Sophomore Stephen Shao relieves Jeff Sues in the top of the third inning.

Junior first baseman Mike Baxter sent two foul balls out of the field before hitting his first single of the game. Dominic De La Osa's grounder sent Baxter home for the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

UTM pitcher Scott Massey keeps an eye on Baxter and attempts to prevent a Commodore steal twice before pitching.

Assistant Coach Erik Bakich guides Tony Mansolino at first base. Mansolino would go on to score in the bottom of the seventh when the Commodores staged a second five-run drive.
