Women's Tennis Remains Undefeated

The No. 4 Vanderbilt women's tennis team stayed undefeated this season (9-0) as they defeated No. 41 Tulane (2-1) Sunday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center.

    The Commodores opened up the match with a 1-0 lead as they
swept the doubles competition.  Junior Sarah Riske (McMurray, Pa.)
and sophomore Aleke Tsoubanos (Chesterfield, Mo.) won at No. 1,
Senior Kate Burson (Washington, D.C.) and freshman Annie Menees (St.
Louis, Mo.) won at No, 2, and senior Jenny Miller (Savannah, Ga.) and
sophomore Kelly Schmandt (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won at No. 3 for the
    Vanderbilt increased its lead to 2-0 when freshman Audra Falk
(Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a straight set win at No. 5 and then to 3-0
with Schmandt's win at No. 3.  Riske clinched the win with her
straight set win at No. 1.  Menees and Tsoubanos posted the last two
Commodore victories at No. 4 and No. 6.
    "Today was a good tennis match against a quality team in
Tulane" commented Vanderbilt head coach Geoff Macdonald.  "I was
pleased with our play today and I am excited to see how we play next
weekend at the National Indoors"
    The Commodores travel to Madison, Wisc. this weekend for the
National Team Indoor Championships on the campus of the University of
Wisconsin.  The 16-team tournament annually hosts some of the
nation's top teams and this year seven of the top 10 teams in the
current ITA poll are particiapting and 14 of the top 25.
