The No. 4 Vanderbilt women's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 5 Georgia in the championship match of the National Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisc. Their second place finish is their best ever at the prestigious event that this year featured seven teams ranked in the top 10.
The Commodores (12-1) fell behind early as Georgia won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. The team of Jenny Miller (Savannah, Ga.) and Kelly Schmandt (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won at No. 3 doubles for Vanderbilt, but the Bulldogs won at No. 1 and No. 2. In singles play, Georgia expanded their lead with a win at No. 2. Sophomore Aleke Tsoubanos (Chesterfield, Mo.) brought the Commodores back to 2-1 with her win at No. 6. However, the Bulldogs posted wins at No. 5 and No. 3 to clinch the championship.
Prior to today's match, the Commodores were on a 12-match winning streak, the longest in school history. It was also the best start of a season for the Commodores. Vanderbilt returns home this weekend to host a pair of ranked foes at the Currey Tennis Center. On Friday, they host No. 19 Texas A&M and on Sunday host No. 30 Illinois.

Men's Tennis Wins at Indiana 4-3
The No. 32 Vanderbilt men's tennis team posted a 4-3 win at No. 55 Indiana Sunday to conclude a two-match road trip to Big Ten country.
The Commodores (3-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead as they swept the doubles competiton. The team of junior Bobby Reynolds (Acworth, Ga.) and freshman Scott Brown (St. Louis, Mo.) won at No. 1, sophomores Lewis Smith (Memphis, Tenn.) and Chad Harris (Aurora, Colo.) won at No. 2 and sophomore Jens Frederiksen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and junior Josh Tarkoff (Miami, Fla.) recorded the win at No. 3. The Commodores took a 3-1 lead midway through the singles competition after wins by sophomore Zach Dailey (Memphis, Tenn.) at No. 4 and Frederiksen at No. 5. The Hoosiers rallied to tie the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 before Brown clinched the match for Vanderbilt with his win at No. 3.
The Commodores will return home this weekend as they host Florida State on Saturday and NC State on Sunday at the Currey Tennis Center.
