Women's hoops: Anderson among Naismith finalists

Vandy's Chantelle Anderson is among 20 finalists for the Naismith Award, given annually to the women's college basketball's player of the year.

Finalists were announced Tuesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The winner will be announced April 5.

Anderson, the Commodores' 6-foot-6 center, is currently the SEC's second-leading scorer with an average of 20.4 points per game. She also averages 6.1 rebounds per game and has 37 blocked shots this season.

Besides Anderson, the list of finalists includes Alana Beard, Duke; Sue Bird, Connecticut; Swin Cash, Connecticut; LaNeisha Caufield, Oklahoma; Stacey Dales, Oklahoma; Deana Jackson, UAB; Gwen Jackson, Tennessee; Sheila Lambert, Baylor; Kara Lawson, Tennessee; Kelly Mazzante, Penn State; Brandi McCain, Florida; Nicole Powell, Stanford; Michelle Snow, Tennessee; Diana Taurasi, Connecticut; LaToya Thomas, Mississippi State; Ayana Walker, La. Tech; Angie Welle, Iowa State; Tamika Williams, Tennessee; Shereka Wright, Purdue.
