Baseball: Arkansas sweeps Vanderbilt

FAYETTEVILLE - The No. 22 Vanderbilt baseball team dropped its third straight game to No. 16 Arkansas, 3-0, Sunday at Baum Stadium.

Three Arkansas pitchers combined to shutout the Commodores for the first time this season. With the victory, the Razorbacks sweep the season series over VU.

Vanderbilt starter David Price struck out six over six innings of work, allowing only two runs. In the second inning, three Price walks allowed the Hogs to get on the board first. Back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning expanded the UA lead to 2-0.

Michael Wagner pitched the final two innings for Vanderbilt, giving up one run on two hits. Left fielder Stephen Shao went 3-for-4 for VU, while Rucker Taylor and Brian Hernandez each had a pair of hits.

For the second day in a row, the Commodores outhit Arkansas, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Vanderbilt stranded two runners in both the second and fourth innings, as well as grounding into a pair of double plays.

The baseball team returns to Nashville to take on Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, at Hawkins Field. Top Stories
