MTSU downs Vanderbilt, 6-4

The Commodores (30-17) suffered their first mid-week loss (6-4) of the season against MTSU's Blue Raiders (25-20) Wednesday night.


Junior Matt Buschmann (3.29) pitched the opening three innings against the Blue Raiders, allowing three hits and one earned run. Blue Raider Marcus Taylor reached home as a result of Buschmann's error during a pick-off attempt in the third inning, putting MTSU up 1-0.


Antoan Richardson (.215) followed up MT's run with a VU run in the bottom of the third inning. Followed immediately by Alex Feinberg (.328), the Commodores gained the lead, 2-1.


Mike Baxter tagged Adam Warren out at first, bringing his put-out total to 10 for the game.


Carter Hawkins (.267) had two hits and crossed home on a grounder by Shea Robin (.250).


Warner Jones (.302) had his only hit of the game in the 7th inning. Warner and Baxter (.376) were both left on base when Dominic De La Osa grounded out to end the inning.


After pinch hitting for Shea Robin, Brian Hernandez (.338) found himself caught in a run-down in the eighth inning.


Mike Baxter ended the game for the Commodores by striking out in the ninth inning and leaving the Commodores with a two run deficit.


Ryan Rote (4.76) and Stephen Shao (3.34) pitched 2.1 combined innings and gave up five runs before Jeff Sues (4.50) stepped into finish the game. Sues pitched 3.2 innings, held the Blue Raiders to six runs and allowed three hits.
