In one of the most bizarre games of the season the 12th ranked Florida Gators inched out a victory over Vanderbilt 5-4 Friday night.

Ace Jensen Lewis started hot with a three-up-three-down quick first inning.Lewis remained strong until the fifth inning which brought a grand slam byUF's Matt LaPorta, putting the Gators up 4-0.

VU power hitter Mike Baxter (.376) earned his only hit during Friday's contestin the first inning.

After successfully stealing second base, Antoan Richardson was caught stealingat third during the third inning.

The controversial call prompted VU Head Coach Tim Corbin to take the field."That was a huge play in a huge game," Corbin said after the call. The decision remained however, and both teams remained scoreless going into thefourth inning.

After the Gators went up 5-0 in the fifth, relief pitcher Stephen Shao tookthe mound. Shao (3.03) finished the game allowing only one hit 3.2 innings.

After Florida's 5-run spree in the top of the fifth inning, VU answered backwhen Alex Feinberg (.333) made a sacrifice hit to send Matt Zeller (.303) homefor the first Commodore score of the game.

The Commodores racked up three more runs in the fifth inning, including 2RBI's by Brian Hernandez.

"I thought we were going to win the ball game. There was no doubt in my mindwe were going to win the ball game. After the flurry they had in the fifth Istill felt like there was a lot of game left. I really think we played verywell. I thought we played hard, there was a lot of well played defense. I amvery proud of the way we played. We were just facing a good ball club, a wellcoached good team."
