Texas lineman chooses Commodores

Drew Brenk, a 6-4, 280 pound lineman has committed to Bobby Johnson and Vanderbilt University. VandyMania spoke with Drew about his athletic exploits and why he chose Vanderbilt.

Brenk indicated that playing in the SEC and gaining a fine Vanderbilt education were critical in his selection criteria. "Playing in the SEC and getting a better education are important to me," said the lineman.

Brenk, who was recruited by Vanderbilt running backs coach Kenny Carter, benches 260 and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds.

Brenk was selected second team All-District in 2004 as a junior and earned academic honors after both his sophomore and junior seasons.

Brenk, who is unsure of his major at Vanderbilt, hasn't visited the Nashville school yet but plans to visit within the next couple weeks.

The lineman displayed good leadership ability after being chosen by his teammates to serve as team Captain during his junior campaign.

In addition to the Commodores Brenk was pursued by Rice, Dartmouth and New Mexico.
