Vanderbilt 7 Campbell 3

Tuesday, March 5 vs Campbell (Jacksonville, Fl.)

Starting pitcher Steven Faulkner scattered six hits over six innings of work to lead the Vanderbilt Commodores past Campbell Wednesday, March 5, at Harmon Stadium. The game marked Vanderbilt's first during its week-long road trip in Florida.

Vanderbilt got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Left fielder John Kaye walked and designated hitter John Prothro reached on a fielding error by Camels' third baseman Tom Rispoli. After right fielder Worth Scott sacrificed both runners over, catcher Jonathan Douillard hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Kaye. Prothro scored on the following play, on a single through the left side of the infield by second baseman Scott Vanderhoff.

Right hander Chris Maultsby relieved Faulkner in the seventh inning when Campbell's center fielder Nic Carter hit a two-RBI double into left center. Maultsby haulted the Camel threat and allowed only one hit in three innings to pick up his first save of the year.

Vanderbilt 7 Central Florida 2

Thursday March 7 (Orlando, Fl.)

First baseman Sean Luellwitz supplied the offense with a fourth-inning three-run home run and starter Jeff Little scattered seven hits over 6.2 innings to give Vanderbilt a 7-2 win over host Central Florida, Thursday, March 7, at Jay Bergman Field. Now enjoying its longest win streak of the season at five consecutive games, Vanderbilt improves to 9-2 on the year. Central Florida falls to 5-10.

The Commodores took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. After shortstop Tony Mansolino was hit by a pitch from UCF starter Paul Lubrano (1-2), left fielder John Kaye singled through the right side of the infield. That set the stage for Luellwitz's powerful shot over the left field wall.

Little improved to 3-1 on the season, allowing only one earned run and no walks while striking out three. Left-hander John Scott relieved Little in the sixth with two outs and two UCF runners on base. Scott got center fielder Mike Meyers to ground out to second base.
