Interview: Dan Stricker, wide receiver

VandyMania interviewed wide receiver Dan Stricker before a spring practice session. Stricker is a bona fide All-American candidate.

VM: Dan what are your impressions so far of this new staff?

DS: They are keeping everything in order.  They are getting our minds right for any situation we are going to face this year.  This morning is a good example, coming out here despite the heavy downpour that we had last night, we are going to come out here, get our focus, and get the job done.

VM: Who do you see as fellow wide receivers that might step it up a notch and contribute this fall?

DS:  All of the receivers that we have have the capability of coming in and playing.  It's really up in the  air right now but I think if I could pinpoint a couple names like Brandon Smith and Keith Williams.  They are doing really well.

VM: What are some of the things that the wide receivers are doing in the weight room as far as strength and conditioning to get ready for the 2002 season?

DS: As many of you already know we have pretty big wide receivers.  We have a lot of guys weighing above 200 pounds and most of us can bench well over 300 pounds and clean over 300 pounds.  Those are some things that are really good on paper but we really emphasis getting it done of the field.

VM: What are some of your personal goals, being a senior, for the 2002 season?

DS: Personal goals, I'm focusing on getting All-American and the Fred Biletnikoff Award and things like that.  As far as team goals, just keeping my leadership skills in tune with the team's needs.  Making the big plays for the team when they need to be made.
