LB Domonic Hopson (6-2, 232, 4.61 forty)
(Pascagoula HS) Pascagoula, Miss. What is the primary position you play? Do you play any other positions?
Domonic Hopson: Linebacker, middle linebacker. I also play some outside linebacker and running back. Can you tell us some of your junior season highlights, stats and postseason honors?
Domonic Hopson: 114 tackles all around, 1 interceptions and 3 sacks. I made the All-District team and All-Region. I think that's about it. You had 3 sacks. How many interceptions did you say?
Domonic Hopson: One. My sophomore season I had 6, but I was playing safety then. They moved me to middle linebacker and it's a little harder to get your hands on the ball but I'm going to pick it up this year. You had 6 interceptions as a sophomore? Wow! Impressive.
Domonic Hopson: Yes. What do you feel is your biggest strengths as a player?
Domonic Hopson: I just think I have a nose for the ball. Last year I had 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumbles recovered. I just have an instinct I guess for reading plays. I watch a lot of film. I know what's going on in certain situations. Other people are like a little lost with different formations and stuff. What schools are currently recruiting you?
Domonic Hopson: I have offers from Vandy, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Louisiana Laffayette and Rice but I'm getting hand written letters from Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Clemson. I'm getting letters from Florida State. What schools do you think you are leaning towards right now?
Domonic Hopson: Of the ones that have offered me I really don't know because there's something I like about every team. It's going to be hard narrowing it down. I'm going to have to sit down with my coach and a couple of family members and decide what's best for me. What are you looking for in a school?
Domonic Hopson: Academics, they've got to have that. My Momma has stressed academics every since I was little. The first thing she said is "If your grades aren't good enough you aren't playing football." I kept As and Bs. I want to play early. I mean, I'm not expecting, I want to though, to play my freshman year. At least by my sophomore year I want to get a lot of playing time. I want to go to a winning team with some kind of tradition, I guess you can say. The top things is academics and playing time. What coach is recruiting you from Vanderbilt?
Domonic Hopson: Coach Kenny Carter. I talk to Coach Belin, the linebacker coach, a lot too. What are some of the things you like about Vanderbilt?
Domonic Hopson: I like the academics. I talked to Coach Kenny Carter and Coach Belin and they are up tempo and excited and they seem like good Christian people. I talked to one of the recruits that already committed there, I can't remember his name, he's a linebacker from I think Arkansas and he was telling me a lot of good things about the campus and stuff. Was that Nathan Campbell?
Domonic Hopson: Yes, that's him. So when are you planning on making your college choice?
Domonic Hopson: [laughter]I'm probably going to go as long as I can. I really haven't been able to decide when I'm going to make my decison. I know it's going to be hard. All the teams that have offered me, there is something good about every one of them. Like Louisana Laffayette is close to home; Southern Miss is close to home; Ole Miss is always [inaudible] and there in the SEC, Mississippi State, it's the same with them and Vanderbilt, They are in the SEC, I like their coaching staff, they're good people. I like the fact that they are in the SEC and seem like they are coming up football team. Rice, my buddy goes there so they are going to be in there to the end. Domonic, it's been a pleasure talking with you. Thanks for your time and good luck in your senior season.
Domonic Hopson: Thank you. Top Stories
