Well, what an interesting week that was. Some of the traditional SEC opening game patsies didn't exactly roll over and play dead. This week finds us with three early SEC matchups, plus the usual cast of cannon fodder.

(9-2 last week; 9-2 overall)

Southern Miss @ Alabama – This has been a competitive game in past years, and may be this year. Alabama, however, will shake off the lethargy of the first game and should win handily. Tide 27-14.

Mississippi State @ Auburn – Despite losing to a good Georgia Tech team last week, Auburn is still a very good football team. Mississippi State still has a looooooong way to go to dig out from the recent past. Tigers 34-10.

La Tech @ Florida – The Gators didn't cover the point spread (22) last week. They'll have no trouble covering the 29 this week. UF 47-7.

South Carolina @ Georgia – The Evil Genius can't win without the horses, and he doesn't have them this year. UGA 34-17.

Idaho State @ Kentucky - The Mildcats get well against Idaho State, but it won't be easy, especially if UK plays like they did in the first half against Louisville. UK 17-13.

Vanderbilt @ Arkansas – One of the more interesting games of the week. It will answer a number of lingering questions for both teams. Is the Hog's running game that good? Is Vandy's run defense that bad? Can Arkansas play another sloppy game and win? As much as I think VU is improved, it's not enough to win on the SEC road at Fayetteville.

Pigs 37-30.

LSU @ Arizona State – The Bengal Tigers are going to want to vent their wrath about Katrina. Arizona State will literally have a Tiger by the tail, and will pay dearly.

LSU 35-16.
