Men's basketball releases 2005-06 schedule

Following back-to-back 20-win seasons and consecutive trips to postseason play, the Vanderbilt men's basketball team faces another challenging schedule for the 2005-06 campaign. Announced Monday, the Commodores' schedule features 16 regular-season home games and 12 contests against teams that advanced to postseason play a year ago.

Vanderbilt's non-conference schedule is highlighted with visits from Oregon (Nov. 30) and Cincinnati (Dec. 10) and includes trips to Georgetown (Nov. 26), Dayton (Dec. 30) and Georgia Tech (Jan. 3).

"It's as difficult a non-conference schedule as we've had since I've been here," said head coach Kevin Stallings who enters his seventh season at Vanderbilt. "As we continue to elevate the status of our program, we need to elevate the quality of our schedule. We feel confident that our team will embrace the difficult schedule and hopefully respond to the challenge."

The regular season tips off Nov. 18 when Jacksonville State visits Memorial Gymnasium.

The Commodores appear twice on national television, traveling to 2005 SEC East Champion Kentucky on Tuesday, Jan. 10, for an 8 p.m. CT tip-off on ESPN, and playing host to Mississippi State on Jan. 21 at 2:45 p.m. CT on CBS.

Eight other Vanderbilt games appear on regional television, beginning with a Dec. 10 home meeting with Cincinnati appearing on Fox Sports Net and Sun Sports at 5 p.m. Five Commodore contests will be televised by Jefferson Pilot Sports, including the Southeastern Conference opener at home against Auburn on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. Other JP Sports telecasts are at Florida on Jan. 28 at 12 p.m., at 2005 Co-SEC West Champion Alabama on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., home against Kentucky on Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. and at South Carolina on Feb. 25 at 12 p.m.

Both home and away contests against Georgia will appear on Fox Sports Net/Sun Sports. The first game takes place in Nashville on Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. with a return trip to Athens on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.

Other SEC foes visiting Memorial Gymnasium this season include South Carolina (Jan. 18), Florida (Feb. 15), 2005 Co-SEC West Champion LSU (Feb. 22) and in-state rival Tennessee for the regular-season finale on March 4.

The Commodores are coming off a 20-14 campaign that concluded in the quarterfinal round of the National Invitation Tournament. Vanderbilt set the school record with 17 home wins last year and takes a 24-game non-conference win streak into the 2005-06 season.

For the third consecutive year, Commodore season ticket prices will remain unchanged. Ticket prices start at only $75. New this year for men's games is a family season ticket package on the second level of Memorial Gymnasium. The family package includes two adult tickets and two youth (17 and under) tickets in sections 2G-2K for only $675. That's less than $10 per person each game. Also new this season, purchasing season tickets in sections 2G-2K will no longer require fans to contribute to the National Commodore Club.

Tickets can be purchased multiple ways:

• on-line at vucommodores.com,
• by calling 615-322-GOLD (option 2) between 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
• at the Vanderbilt ticket office at the McGugin Center. Office hours are 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

All Commodore games can be heard in Nashville on Vanderbilt's flagship station, WGFX-FM 104.5 "The Zone."
