South Carolina receiver picks Vandy

The Vanderbilt coaching staff picked up their eighth football commit when wide receiver Steven Goulet picked the Commodores. VandyMania spoke with the Dutch Fork High School star about why he picked Vandy and his football accomplishments so far this season.

"I've committed to Vanderbilt," said the 6-2, 178 pound South Carolina wide receiver Steven Goulet. Goulet, who picked Vandy over offers from Temple, West Virginia and Furman, said heavy interest from the Commodore staff in him coupled with Vanderbilt's recent success on the field were instrumental in him picking the Nashville school. "They have really been interested in me and they said they were only taking one receiver this year and they are doing really good this year and I wanted to be a part of that."

Goulet, who watched the Vanderbilt-Ole Miss game on TV, says he really likes the Vanderbilt offense. "They are playing really good right now," said Goulet.

The Vanderbilt coaching staff seems to have gotten an assist from Goulet's parents. When asked what his parents thought about him committing to Vanderbilt, Goulet replied, "They like it. They wanted me to commit to Vanderbilt earlier because it's such a good school."

Goulet, who has not visited Vanderbilt, plans to visit soon, possibly for the Georgia game.

The talented wide receiver has caught 9 passes for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns despite seeing limited action due to an ankle sprain. Goulet should be back on the field soon.
