Meredith Ward and Nicki Cutler were named to the 2002 All-SEC second team and Courtney Wood earned honorable mention honors, the league office announced Monday.
Ward, a senior from Crystal Lake, Ill., has enjoyed an outstanding career. This year she has five Top 10 finishes in 10 events, averaging 75.3 strokes per round. Her best tournaments were fourth place finishes at the Tar Heel Invitational and the Texas Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic. Ward, an Academic All-America pick as a junior, has already qualified for the LPGA Futures Tour.
Cutler, a junior from Englewood, Colo., has six Top 5 performances to date for this season. Last weekend she was second at the SEC Championships, one of two tournaments she played under-par. She averaged 74.8 over 28 rounds of competitive play. She was also a second-team All-SEC pick a year ago.
Wood, a sophomore from Brentwood, came on strong at the end of the season. She had a 4-under par 68 in the last round of the SEC Championships to finish in a tie for 15th place. She also won the VU Triangular April 12 against Belmont and Middle Tennessee State.
It marks the first time Vanderbilt has landed three players on the SEC honor team.
