Massey down to three

Jonathan Massey, one of the top tight ends in the south, has narrowed his list of favorites to three and the Tigers have made the cut. has all the details in this recruiting update.

The 6-2, 245 pound prospect is having an outstanding senior season for Gautier High. "I have about 30 catches, over 300 yards and three touchdowns this year. We are 6-1 and we clinched our division last week," Massey told in a recent interview.

When asked about his current favorites in the recruiting process, Massey responded, "It's between Clemson, Ole Mississippi and Vanderbilt. I have it down to those three for the most part.

"I plan to take official visits to all three. I will also probably visit Southern Mississippi. I am going to take an official visit to Clemson on January 13."

How will the prize recruit decide between his final three schools? "I will look at how I fit in the offensive system they run. I will look at how early I can play. I will want to make sure the coaching staff is going to be there my whole time. I will also look at the overall atmosphere," he said.

Massey also says it's important for him to play in a wide open offense.

"Being a tight end I want to play in a passing offense. When I talked with the coaches, they have talked about using me as an ice back. They talk about using in a lot of different places," he said.

Not surprisingly, the Mississippi standout has also spent some time watching Clemson's offense on television. "You know I have never been to Clemson, but I have watched them a little bit on television. I like what they do with the tight end. They spread him out and even put him in the backfield sometimes," Massey said.

Don't expect a decision until Massey has visited his three favorites. "I will probably wait until after I take my visits to make a commitment," he added.
