VU Football 2006: Fullbacks and Tailbacks

This is the second of a series of early looks at the 2006 Vanderbilt Commodore football team. VandyMania takes a look at the returning players and newcomers at every position. Today we check out the fullbacks and tailbacks.

Fullback

Losses

None

Returnees

Steven Bright (6-4, 236 SR): Had 17 catches for 198 yards. Had 5 rushes for 14 yards. Missed 3 games due to an injury.
Zach Logan (6-1, 234 SO): Saw action in 8 games. Had 1 rush for 3 yards.
David Whittington (6-2, 244 SO): Started Wake Forest game.

Newcomers

None

Remarks- Expect Bright to continue where he left off in '05 but he might be moved to quarterback in a crunch.


Tailback

Losses

Ron Bullock, Tim Miller.

Returnees

Jeff Jennings (6-1, 228 JR): Saw action in 10 games. Had 123 rushes for 476 yards and 7 touchdowns. Very reliable in goal line situations. Injured in Kentucky game. Caught 21 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.
Cassen Jackson-Garrison (6-1, 220 JR): Saw action in 11 games. Has the ability to break away on long runs. Had 97 rushes for 579 yards and 8 touchdowns. Caught 14 passes for 139 yards.

Newcomers

Daniel Dufrene (5-10, 185 FR*): Reshirted during 2005 season. As a high school senior rushed for 1,472 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Jared Hawkins (5-10, 185 FR*): Reshirted during 2005 season. As a prep senior rushed for 991 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 6.4 per carry.
Remarks- Jennings may not be ready to return for '06. If that happens, expect Jackson to get extra carries while Hawkins and Dufrene see significant action.
