This is the third of a series of early looks at the 2006 Vanderbilt Commodore football team. VandyMania takes a look at the returning players and newcomers at every position. Today we check out the offensive line.

Losses

Ryan King, Trey Holloway, Nigel Seaman

Returnees

Chris Williams (6-7, 307 JR): Had 9 starts at left guard. Has added over 60 pounds of muscle since his freshman year.
Josh Eames (6-5, 305 JR): Reliable player who had 9 starts at right guard.
Merritt Kirchoffer (6-5, 315 JR): Saw action in a backup role and played well.
Hamilton Holliday (6-4, 288 JR): Saw action in a backup role. Blocked well in the Tennessee game and was on the field when Vandy took the lead in the fourth quarter.
Brian Stamper (6-5, 292 SR): Very strong player who started all 11 games at right tackle. Earned All-SEC honors.
Elliot Hood (6-5, 295 JR): Saw action in a backup role and is expected to see increased action in the future.
Mac Pyle (6-4, 312 SR): Veteran lineman who was injured in second game of 2005. Should be granted an additional year of eligibility due to hardship. If he is back and healthy it will bolster the line for sure.

Newcomers

Ryan Custer (6-4, 295 FR*): Redshirted during the 2005 season. During prep career named to the First Team All-Dayton Area Team and All-Southwest Ohio District Team as a defensive lineman
Drew Gardner (6-5, 305 FR*): Redshirted during the 2005 season. As a senior in high school, earned 93 percent blocking grade while posting 65 knockdown blocks.
Eric Hensley (6-7, 290 FR*): Redshirted during the 2005 season. As a senior in high school he was named to Knoxville News Sentinel's First Team PrepXtra team. Three year starter on defensive line.
Ryan Vance (6-3, 280 FR*): Redshirted during the 2005 season. Bench presses over 425 pounds.
Bradley Vierling (6-4, 285 FR*): Redshirted during the 2005 season. As a prep senior, named Second Team All-State and First Team All Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Nick Miller (6-2, 275 FR*): Walk on who will help provide depth.

Steve Sullivan (6-0, 285 FR*): Walk on who will help provide depth.

Remarks- King and Holloway have provided good leadership and will be tough to replace. Williams and Stamper should anchor the '06 line. Eames, Kirchoffer, Holliday and Hood are all good lineman. There's a great group of 5 redshirt freshmen coming in to lend a hand on the line. Holliday is a likely candidate to take over for Trey Holloway at center.

Senior Mac Pyles return could bolster the Vanderbilt offensive line. (VM/ Whitney D)
