Vanderbilt Football 2006: Quarterbacks

This is the fourth of a series of early looks at the 2006 Vanderbilt Commodore football team. VandyMania takes a look at the returning players and newcomers at every position. Today we check out the quarterbacks.

Jay Cutler

Chris Nickson (6-1, 205 SO): Saw action in 5 games. Completed 1 of 3 passes for 13 yards. Had 15 rushes for 67 yards. During prep career accounted for 142 touchdowns and 9,806 all-purpose yards.

Mackenzi Adams (6-3, 190 FR*): Adams was redshirted in 2005. Passed for 6,781 yards and 72 touchdowns during four year prep career. Led team to 6-A state championship.

Remarks- Replacing Jay Cutler will be the biggest issue facing the 2006 Vanderbilt football team. No one expects the new quarterback to perform on the same level as the seasoned veteran Cutler. Vanderbilt just needs a signal caller that can give them a chance to win. Is it Nickson or Adams? Let the quarterback controversy begin. Both have super talent and the physical build to make it in the SEC. Just like the Cutler and Benji Walker situation a few years ago, the coaches will have to decide this one.
