Georgia Linebacker Names Early Leader

Linebacker Marshall "Scottie" Williams has received his first scholarship offer, and he names an early leader. The Tide coaching staff is looking for several linebackers for the class of 2007.

"I have an offer from North Carolina. I got it over the summer when I went up there to their camp. I get a lot of letters from Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and Duke also," Marshall Williams said.

Williams names a top 5 with a leader.

"My top schools are Alabama, North Carolina and Miami. I also like LSU and Florida as well but Alabama is my favorite."

What sticks out about the Tide?

"I've watched them play a lot of their games and I love how they let the linebackers roam around. It's close to home and it's also a good academic school."

The Tar Heels and the Canes round out his early top three.

North Carolina: "They've offered me already and it's a nice place."

Miami: "It's a real good school and has good competition."

Marshall made the rounds last year camping at five different southeastern programs.

"I camped at North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Vanderbilt. This year I will try to swing down to Miami and then Alabama and Texas."

Lilburn's Parkview High School has been one of the country's top football programs since the late 90's and Marshall believes his education there both on the field and off of it has prepared him for the next level.

"It's a school where you have a lot of expectations and you have to live up to it. It's also a great academic school and they pound you on that. So many good athletes come out of here."

As he looks toward his senior year, Williams has set some lofty goals.

"I had 33 tackles and 3 sacks a year ago. This year I want to lead the nation in sacks to be honest. They're going to free me up this year between linebacker and defensive end."
