Photo Gallery: 'Meet the Commodores' banquet

On Friday evening, Coach Tim Corbin hosted the 2006 Meet the Commodores Banquet at the Stadium Club. VandyMania's Whitney D shares these photos from the event.

Baseball season tickets are still on sale, only $70 for adults and $35 for children, seniors, and Vanderbilt faculty/staff. Fans are also invited to support the baseball team by joining the Bullpen Club. For more information, visit

Guests had the opportunity to bid on memorabilia in a silent auction during the social hour before the banquet.

A #6 football jersey signed by former Vanderbilt star quarterback Jay Cutler was one of the items available in the auction.

In another room, the players greeted guests and signed autographs.

Coach Corbin mingled with the guests, signed autographs, and posed for photos.

Many members of the family of the late Charlie Hawkins were in attendance, including his wife Lee Ann and granddaughters Caroline and Mary Allen. Former Vanderbilt star Cesar Nicholas practically became a member of the family during his years at Vanderbilt and still maintains those family ties.

Pitchers David Price and Matt Buschman enjoyed themselves as they signed posters for fans.

Posters featuring the three seniors on the team -- Matt Buschman, Brian Hernandez, and Rucker Taylor -- were available for guests. This young fan collected autographs from all the players on her poster.

The centerpieces on the banquet tables featured signed baseballs and candles. The highest bidder at each table took the baseball home.

Vice Chancellor David Williams II took a brief break from the Board of Trust meetings to stop by the banquet to show his support for Coach Corbin and the baseball team.

After dinner, there was one last chance to check the status of the bidding on the items in the silent auction.

Before this year's team was introduced, awards from the 2005 season were presented. Jensen Lewis received the Pitcher of the Year award. Other awards were given to David Price (Rookie of the Year), Mike Baxter (Offensive Player of the Year), and Antuan Richardson (Defensive Player of the Year and the Charlie Hawkins Award for most inspirational player).

Then Coach Corbin introduced his assistant coaches, the support staff, the players, beginning with the freshman class, rated the top recruiting class in the country by Baseball America.

After the banquet former Vanderbilt coach Roy Mewbourne and his son Richie posed for a photo with Antuan Richardson and Mike Baxter.
