The Alums got off to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on second baseman Zack Simpson's two-out two-run single off of Buschmann. That would be the last hit out of the infield for the alums, as Antoan Richardson's infield single in the third was the team's last hit of the afternoon.
The 2006 team rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the second on freshman Diallo Fon's two-out two-run single off of starter Jensen Lewis. Junior Matt Meingasner opened the inning with a single and advanced to third on a two-out double by sophomore Ryan Davis.
The current Commodores then took the lead for good in the third when freshman Ryan Flaherty led off the stanza with a solo homer to left off of reliever Andy Beal. Senior Brian Hernandez later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
"It was good to play against someone else and face some really good arms," said head coach Tim Corbin. "The second inning was big, we had some good situational hitting and Diallo (Fon) came up with a clutch two-out hit. (Ryan) Flaherty's homer to lead off the third then put us over the top."
Beal gave up two runs in an inning of work and was followed by Jeremy Sowers who pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the alums. Ryan Rote was the final alum to pitch and allowed one run in two innings of action.
Meingasner and Flaherty led Vandy with two hits each, while Simpson led the Alums with a hit and two RBIs.
