What's On Tap

Vanderbilt looks to continue its successful start to the conference season this weekend as Arkansas comes to town for a three-game SEC series. The teams will open play tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at Hawkins Field and will continue on Saturday at 2 p.m. They will then close it out on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Scouting Arkansas

Arkansas got out to a hot start with a 16-1 record prior to opening SEC play at Florida three weeks ago. They are ranked as high as 10th in the polls this week with a 23-7 overall record and a 4-5 ledger in conference (tied for third in the Western Division). Chris Hollensworth leads the team with a .389 batting average through 27 games, while Danny
Hamblin is the top power source with eight homers and 40 RBI. As a team the Razorbacks are hitting .296 with 33 homers and 211 runs scored (7 per game) on the year.
Arkansas' pitching rotation for this weekend will be righthander Charley Boyce (2-1, 5.45 ERA) on Friday, lefthander Nick Schmidt (5-2, 1.69 ERA) on Saturday and southpaw Trey Holloway (2-0, 3.10 ERA) on Sunday. UA has two players that can close with Devin Collis (4-0, 2.33 ERA) and Daryl Maday (0-0, 3.75 ERA) with four and five saves respectively. The Razorbacks sport a 3.23 team ERA with 218 strikeouts and 83 walks in 270 innings.

Series Notes: Arkansas has won every three-game SEC series the teams have played ... the Commodores took a single-game in 2002, as the other two games were not played due to weather ... the Razorbacks have won five of the last six contests and are 9-4 all-time in Nashville.

The Commodores were ranked in all four major polls this week for the first time this season. Vanderbilt moved up from No. 17 to No. 12 in Collegiate Baseball, and were ranked No. 16 in
Baseball America, No. 23 in the ESPN/Coaches Poll and No. 28 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Poll.
