WHAT WENT RIGHT:Vanderbilt battled the heavily favored Tigers for four straight quarters. Lew Thomas had an exceptional day rushing the ball as he gained 173 yards in 27 carries, scoring two touchdowns. The Vanderbilt defense held the Tigers to just 107 total net rushing yards and recovered two fumbles while forcing four.
WHAT WENT WRONG:The Commodores returned to their losing ways. Just four plays into the game Auburn scored what turned out to be the difference in the game when Carnell Williams scampered 51 yards on his first carry for the game's first score. A failed fake field goal attempt late in the game.
